The seven effective practices outlined in the resource and in the DVD are:
(1) Clearly describe the learning intentions and success criteria
(2) Encourage students to collaborate with peers in the production of texts
(3) Allow for individual, goal-directed work and inquiry
(4) Make connections across and between texts, text types, content, and students’ own lives
(5) Emphasize that writing is a process
(6) Involve students in using strategies and processes used to create effective pieces of writing
(7) Give specific feedback and feed forward to provide clear guidance on next steps to improve (14 tasks for the aligned standards)

NZATE LEVEL ONE TASK RESOURCE

NZATE has put together a CD of new tasks for the aligned Level 1 standards. These tasks are not moderated, but we hope they'll still be useful as we all stumble/fumble our way through the year.
They are word documents, so that you can adapt them for your own classroom or school use. For the standards where there are two tasks already on TKI (eg 1.10), we've created one new one. For the others (eg Creative Writing) there are three - a total of fourteen new tasks. There will be a workshop on the CD at the upcoming Conference

The CD contains 24 written exemplars, comprising two each of 'low', 'middle' and 'high' exemplars at each level (N/A, A, M, E).

This DVD features many effective approaches to NCEA Level 1 oral presentations filmed in a diverse range of schools.
There are 28 exemplars, each with an introductory title giving details about the activity. In several instances, these activities are integrated with other aspects of the programme, from both English and other curriculum areas. Details related to the achievement criteria are also included on screen for each exemplar.
